Criteria to Evaluate Student's Work
When talking about using new media in the EFL-classroom, we mentioned a lot of advantages: the use of new media enhances the motivation of students, students improve their media skills, many of new classroom technologies save a lot of time and, of course, using web 2.0-tools can be much fun. But besides all these positive aspects, teachers musn't forget that they also have to evaluate the student's working processes. To do this in an approbriate and transparent way, teachers should have certain criteria after which they evaluate their student's achievements. These criteria change depending on the task and topic: when students are supposed to give a presentation their teacher needs different criteria for evaluation than he needs when his students write an essay. Therefore, using new media in the EFL-classroom demands adequate criteria for the evaluation of student's work and working processes. Basically, teachers can use the same criteria for evaluation when using
new media teaching methods as when using conventional methods. But
certainly, there are some other learning aspects students put effort in.

Liane Paradies et al. give a good overview about the evaluation of
student's work in their monography "Leistungmessung und -bewertung".
They explain and discuss the basic aspects of evaluation and developed certain criteria for
different learning situations. Furthermore, their work provides drafts
for forms containing criteria for evaluation. Based on these drafts, I
tried to modify a form for teachers which should serve as a help when
observing the working process of students when using new media in the
EFL-classroom. This form rather evaluates the student's attitude towards
work and their behavior during the learning process than their work's results.
